Transport and playback
Use Play/Pause to start or pause from the current playhead. Stop ends playback, clears clip-local playback scope, and returns the playhead to the active loop start or to the project start when no loop is active. Press Space to toggle global playback when focus is not in a text field.
Tempo and loop
The minus and plus controls change tempo by one BPM. Use TAP to establish tempo by tapping. Loop can be enabled only when PianoForge can derive a loop range from project content; there is no manual loop-bound editor yet.
Shared grid and seeking
The arranger, piano roll, and drum grid share these snap choices: bar, beat, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, and off.
- Previous grid: [
- Next grid: ]
- Toggle snapping: Backslash
In an editor with a selected clip, click its ruler to seek the clip-local cursor. Clip-local Play/Pause and Stop remain disabled until a clip is selected.
Playhead timing
The playhead and note scheduler share the audio timeline. The line follows output-device timing rather than accumulating elapsed display frames. Starting or seeking reserves a short scheduling lead so the first note can be queued before its onset; the line stays at the start position until then. Arrangement, piano-roll and drum-grid playback each retain their own timeline and voices.
After a long system stall, obsolete note starts are skipped instead of playing as a burst. An audio clip resumes from its current position. Ready sounds can continue while other assets load. If a note was missed during loading, restart the passage once its sound is ready. Display refresh rate and audio-device latency still limit physical synchronization; a wired device is preferable for judging onset timing.
