AI assistant

Open the AI assistant with Command+K / Ctrl+K. The scope bar summarizes the current track, clip, note selection, and time range before a request runs. Ambiguous or out-of-scope targets block the entire proposal rather than partially changing unrelated material.

Press Enter to submit and Shift+Enter for a new line. Cancel stops an in-flight request. Only one proposal can be pending at a time.

Providers

AI Settings offers Disabled, PianoForge Trial, Mock, OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenRouter. Trial requires no key and includes five hosted generations. OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenRouter use your own saved key and selected model. Mock is deterministic and local; Disabled prevents provider calls.

When secure storage is available, provider keys are encrypted. PianoForge explicitly reports when only session storage is available, so do not assume every machine can persist a key securely.

Preview, accept, reject, and undo

Normal AI edits appear as a non-destructive preview. Accept commits the complete batch as one undoable history entry; Reject clears it without changing the project. Revert last AI is available only while that AI change remains the newest undo entry.

The AI can add or delete notes, adjust velocity, transpose, quantize, humanize, and shape sound through bounded macros.

Preview and apply reliability

A proposed edit previews its final inserted and modified notes after all operations in the proposal. Deleted notes are marked in red. If the project changes while a proposal is waiting, request a fresh proposal. An apply failure restores the original project, and a successful grouped edit remains undoable.
